Jessie's post should show up under her name, and it does within blogger, but it shows up as my name on blogspot. Not sure what the issue is there....

When Jessie gets bored of talking to me (I was sitting next to her), she does this:

[Thursday 02:39 PM] Jessie: hi
[Thursday 02:39 PM] *** Auto-response sent to Jessie: I am currently away from the computer.
[Thursday 02:39 PM] Jessie: and i know where you are.
[Thursday 02:40 PM] Jessie: why is it i can find this so amusing?
[Thursday 02:40 PM] Jessie: boredom. that must be it. no, insanity has nothing to do with it.
[Thursday 02:41 PM] Jessie: ::very scared::
[Thursday 02:41 PM] Jessie: ::extremely scared::
[Thursday 02:41 PM] Jessie: eek
[Thursday 02:41 PM] Jessie: wondering if i should run away, like, now.

Whee! I can post here too, now. (this is one of michelle's roommates. no, not the cat. one of the people.) Okay, when I come up with something more interesting to make note of, I shall post again.

I finally did it. I signed up for Team in Training, the marathon fundraising program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. On June 1st, I will walk the Rock 'n Roll marathon in San Diego to raise money for blood-related cancers.

I have wanted to do this for 7 years, since my mother died of acute myelogenous leukemia on August 25th, 1995. My family has been supporting the Leukemia Society since then. I will walk in her memory.

I will walk in honor of Cliff Layman, a leukemia patient who is actually running the event I am walking. If he can run it, I can certainly walk it. Cliff is on a new treatment drug, called Gleevec, which is still undergoing trials. He is lucky to live in the Triangle where is it being studied, but they are very optimistic about the results. I will also walk in honor of Amber Hansen, who doesn't yet know about it, but who I have known since I was 8, right about when she went into remission.

I have already been training six days a week, and will continue until the week before I walk. I have a training coach, and a fundraising mentor. But the time will be well-spent and is nothing compared to the suffering of so many people with cancer and any other life-threatening disease.

I was very excited today at the kick-off meeting, but it was also hard for me, because I know that while many people survive, some, like my mom, don't make it. There is still a lot of research to be done about blood-related cancers. This is only a small thing I can do to contribute, but many people doing small things creates a movement of gigantic proportions.

You can find recent pics at I will also add this as a permanent links to the left.

In other news, this is no longer going to be just my blog. My roommates Stephanie and Jessica are also going to be posting on it. They were fascinated by the whole blogging concept, and since this blog doesn't see much action from just me, I thought that would make it more interesting for you two whole people who actually read it.

I have been trying to put together a laundry sorter and got so frustrated with the whole thing that I gave up and left it in the middle of the hallway. Who are the retards that invent these things? I have already thought of about 20 better ways to make one that is easier to put together!! I bet they get paid a whole lot too. Well, at least Audrey (Stephanie's cat) thinks it's entertaining. She is afraid of the box, though. I have never met a cat who was actually afraid of boxes.
